Cancer patients are particularly at risk because of the corona virus because their immune system is compromised. The recommendations of the Federal Centre for Health Education, therefore, apply especially to them. They should protect themselves by voluntarily isolation from others, avoid social contacts as far as possible and keep sufficient distance from others. They should also pay attention to any first indications of illness – especially cough and fever. If they notice these signs, they should call a doctor immediately. Whether cancer therapy ought to be postponed depends on the individual case. “For most acutely ill patients with cancer, the benefit of a sensible and planned cancer therapy outweighs the risk of a possible infection with the coronavirus.” This is what the German Society for Haematology and Medical Oncology wrote in its text on information for cancer patients.
